During the 2015 election campaign, the Green Party in the UK saw a surge in its membership – dubbed the ‘Green Surge’.
This phenomenon gained significant media attention, but nobody shared the stories of the individuals who were leaving other parties – primarily Labour or the Liberal Democrats – to instead show their support for the Green Party.
This project took place prior to the elections, and aimed to share the stories of some of the people who were a part of this surge – to explore their motivations for joining the Green Party when they did, and possibly inspire others to question which party truly represented their interests.
The project had two parts – portraits of new members at a location of their choosing, and the recording of the responses to a series of seven questions – the same questions being posed to each person photographed.
The portraits and people’s responses can be seen on the dedicated website built for the project – greensurge.uk
